Where to Go & What to Eat: Lake Wylie

Summer’s ending, school’s starting, but we still have our weekends Gastonia! Here at Hyundai of Gastonia we’ve been heading out to explore the various local favorites and discovering fun, and unique places all over the state and we’re not slowing down anytime soon. It’s been a little hot out lately and we’re thinking that before the temperatures cool off too much it’d be a good time to find some outdoor fun and indulge in local food and treats that are sure to cool us off. We’re headed south, over the border and into York County, South Carolina and the area of Lake Wylie in the new efficient and stylish 2019 Hyundai Sonata (2020 Hyundai Sonata inventory coming fall 2019, view 2019 lineup here) to see what’s in store.

Where to go?

Rizz’s Outdoors

Rizz’s Outdoors is the place to go for any possible activity you could imagine out on the Lake. We are in Lake Wylie after all, and the best remedy to the hot, humid sun, is to jump in the water, so it’s a win-win. Named after Phil Rizzitello, or as everyone calls him, Captain Rizz, here you can partake in a bunch of awesome outdoor activities. First, there’s normal rod and reel fishing, or you can take up the challenge of “non-stop, action packed” bow fishing, which takes place at dusk and features lighting in the water that creates an appealing glow and attracts more fish. Bow fishing is described as a mix of archery and fishing and is truly a really cool experience that you don't have to be into fishing to enjoy. Furthermore, Rizz’s offers Pontoon charters for half or full day excursions, with a captain and first mate included. They also offer ultra relaxing and appetizing Evening Dinner/ Sunset cruises for up to 4 people where you can dine and hangout for 3 hours on the lake. With too much to mention all in one post, check out more information on Rizz’s Outdoors here!

What to eat?

Sweetwater Sports Bar and Grill

When you’ve been soaking up the sun all day, a place called Sweetwater sure does sound like a good bet to cool off. Name aside, we’re glad we gave it a shot. Known as a “family friendly” local restaurant and located just over the Buster Boyd Bridge (fun fact: Boyd Bridge is the only bridge where North Carolina ends up on the southern tip and South Carolina ends on the Northern end!) with an enormous selection of quality food such as their go-to (and sworn by) burgers, pizza’s, and we’d be remiss not to mention their award-winning wings - all of this in addition to the largest selection of craft beer on Lake Wylie. The whole staff is attentive and friendly, the prices are great, and the product is even better. Sweetwater truly is a great experience for those local to Lake Wylie or those like us passing through looking for a quality meal. Side note: With football season starting back up this is the perfect place to have a bite and brew while catching a few games. Officially located right off Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie, check out Sweetwater's menu and additional info here.
