The 2018 Hyundai Sonata Earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus Rating

Safety is number one on the road in Gastonia, and to keep it that way, you need a vehicle that can live up to the challenge of keeping you safe. That vehicle is the 2018 Hyundai Sonata, having earned the Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

How does a vehicle become an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus? It's put through five crash tests including driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints, and must earn a rating of "good" in all five. It then must earn a rating of "advanced" or "superior" for front crash prevention, and a rating of "acceptable" or "good" for headlights.

Considering the safety features included in the 2018 Sonata, it's no surprise it pulled in the highest rating available from the IIHS. Lane Keep Assist warns you if you start to drive out of your lane, and can help you steer back to safety. Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-traffic Alert warns you of vehicles you might not be able to see. And Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection can automatically apply the brakes if a frontal collision is imminent.
